Getting Started

To see if you would benefit from therapy, schedule an initial appointment. At our first appointment, we will review your history and identify your counseling goals. This will allow me to determine if my skill set aligns with your counseling needs and answer any questions you may have about therapy. Initial appointments also help you determine if you feel comfortable working with me. If I think that a different therapeutic approach might work better for you, or you do not feel that I am a "match" for you, I will refer you to a more appropriate specialist.

  •  Submit an appointment request through the Home page, email Dr.Erwin@hderwinphd.com or call 703-626-3693.

  • Indicate whether you plan to use insurance when you make the initial appointment. Please see below regarding insurance.

  • After setting up an initial appointment, you will receive a patient portal.

  • Arrive for your appointment with your insurance card and co-pay.

  • Provide reimbursement at the time of service in the form of check, cash or credit card. Please note that credit cards have a $5.00 processing fee.

Insurance Information

As an individual practitioner, I participate in selected insurance programs. It is the patient’s
responsibility to contact insurance about coverage for services. In order to determine what your
benefits and coverage are:

  • Call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card (for Mental Health).

  • Tell them you will be seeing Dr. Erwin and ask if she is in-network or out-of-network.

  • If she is in-network, ask when the contract year began and if you must meet an annual deductible before your benefits go into effect.

If I am out-of-network, ask:

  • What the reimbursement rate is for a therapy visit with CPT code 90791 and 90837.

  • If you must meet an annual deductible before your benefits go into effect.

  • If there is an annual or lifetime limit on what you will pay.

  • If there is a maximum number of visits allowed per year.

  • Record the name of the person you spoke with and the date of your telephone call.
